Migration of the University’s Network to a New DNS Scheduled for Dec. 21

Friday, December 13, 2019 - 11:17

On Saturday, Dec. 21, Pitt Information Technology will migrate the University’s network to a new domain name system (DNS). This change provides increased redundancy and higher resiliency, as part of Pitt IT’s ongoing efforts to position the University to be more effective and efficient.

If your device is currently configured to use the University’s DHCP service, no action is required. If you are unsure of your device’s configuration, please contact the Technology Help Desk.

For those with devices that have manually configured DNS, the existing servers will continue to function (until December 7, 2020). However, users and administrators are encouraged to begin utilizing the new anycast addresses:

Existing DNS Addresses

  • (NS1) 136.142.57.10
  • (NS2) 136.142.188.73

New Anycast Addresses

  • 10.10.10.10
  • 10.10.20.10

Please contact the Technology Help Desk at 412-624-HELP (4357) if you have any questions regarding this announcement.
