Resolved: Intermittent Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues

Pitt Information Technology has worked with the vendor to mitigate intermittent Wi-Fi connectivity issues. Full PittNet Wi-Fi service has been restored.

Network Engineering is working with vendor to resolve ongoing intermittent Wi-Fi connectivity issues. Pitt IT asks users to contact the Technology Help Desk to report any issues.

Pitt IT’s monitoring of PittNet Wi-Fi during the past two days shows the service has remained stable with no new issues reported. As we continue to monitor and investigate, we ask users to contact the Technology Help Desk to report any issues with PittNet Wi-Fi.

Some users continue to experience an intermittent network issue affecting PittNet Wi-Fi service on the Pittsburgh campus. Pitt IT engineers are investigating the cause of the issue and working to resolve it.

Users are no longer experiencing the intermittent network issue that affected PittNet Wi-Fi service on the Pittsburgh campus. Pitt IT engineers continue to monitor the service.

An intermittent network issue is affecting PittNet Wi-Fi service on the Pittsburgh campus. Residence Hall Wi-Fi (MyResNet) remains available. Pitt IT engineers are working to resolve the issue and restore service as quickly as possible. Updates will be posted as they become available.

RESOLVED: Workaround for Issue Affecting Access to Faculty Information System (Elements)

The issue that affected access to the Faculty Information System (Elements) has been resolved and full service has been restored.

An issue is affecting access to the Faculty Information System (Elements) through myPitt (my.pitt.edu) and AskCathy. Pitt Information Technology is aware of the issue and working to restore service as quickly as possible.

 

In the interim, users can still access the service by logging in to myPitt, clicking Faculty Information System, then clicking the Home tab after the error message displays.

RESOLVED: PittNet Wi-Fi and Wired Network Service Restored

Pitt Information Technology has completed emergency network maintenance and restored PittNet Wi-Fi and Wired service to all previously impacted locations. Pitt IT will continue to monitor.

2:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020

Pitt Information Technology has scheduled emergency network maintenance this afternoon to resolve an isolated service disruption to PittNet Wi-Fi and Wired networks.  Network service will be unavailable for up to one hour during the maintenance period in the following additional locations:

  • Hillman Library
  • Mechanicsburg
  • Medical Arts Building
  • North Bellefield
  • Posvar Hall
  • Parkvale Building
  • Pymatuning Laboratory of Ecology
  • School of Law
  • Webster Hall

In addition, Comcast TV service will be unavailable on the Pittsburgh campus, except in residence halls and apartments with MyResNet service.

RESOLVED: myPitt Back Online

The issue that affected myPitt earlier today has been resolved and full service has been restored.

Pitt Information Technology has taken steps to address the issue that affected access to myPitt (my.pitt.edu). MyPitt is back online, and we are continuing to monitor it. Additional updates will be posted as they become available.

Pitt Information Technology is investigating an issue that is affecting access to myPitt (my.pitt.edu). Affected users are unable to view the myPitt landing page after entering their login credentials. In the interim, note that many tasks accessed through myPitt are also available by searching tasks at AskCathy.pitt.edu. Individuals may also access their Pitt email and calendar by selecting Outlook at portal.office.com.

Pitt Information Technology is working to restore full service as quickly as possible. Updates will be posted as they become available.

Office 365 Video Content Begins Moving to Stream on March 1

Microsoft has announced it will begin moving video content hosted on Office 365 Video to Microsoft Stream on March 1, 2020.

If you currently host video content on Office 365 Video, you do not need to take any action. Your content will be migrated automatically. Any existing Office 365 Video embed codes and links to videos will continue to work, redirecting to the same content in Stream.

Stream delivers a variety of new features, including:

  • Permissions at the video level
  • Rich video description, including links directly to times within a video
  • Deep search of what is spoken in the video
  • Stream mobile app on iOS and Android with offline playback

Please note that video view statistics will not be immediately available after the transition to Stream, but Microsoft is working to add that functionality. More information about Stream is available on Microsoft’s website.

February Microsoft Security Update

Microsoft Corporation has announced security updates for February that affect the following software: 

  • Microsoft Windows
  • Microsoft Edge (EdgeHTML-based)
  • Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based)
  • ChakraCore
  • Internet Explorer
  • Microsoft Exchange Server
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Microsoft Office and Microsoft Office Services and Web Apps
  • Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool
  • Windows Surface Hub

Pitt Information Technology recommends that users immediately identify and install the security updates necessary to remediate these vulnerabilities by using Microsoft's Windows Update feature on their computers as soon as possible. Additional information about the updates is available on Microsoft’s Security TechCenter.

In addition, Pitt IT recommends that all students, faculty, and staff install Antivirus (Symantec Endpoint) and Anti-Malware (Malwarebytes) Protection. Both are available at no cost through the Software Download Service. Departments can submit a help request to obtain Malwarebytes for multiple machines.

Power Issues Cause of Intermittent Network/Voice Service Disruptions in Hieber Building

Duquesne Light is experiencing a power outage that is affecting PittNet Wi-Fi and Wired Networks in the Family Medicine Building and the Loeffler Building. Network service is currently unavailable in the Family Medicine Building, and the Loeffler Building is currently operating on UPS battery power.

Duquesne Light is aware of the issue and working to restore power as quickly as possible. Updates will be posted as they become available.
