How to Get Software

A variety of software is available at little or no cost to University students, faculty and staff. Browse the list of available software for students or software for faculty, staff, and departments.

  • Individual faculty or staff members may purchase some software titles for personal use either at home or at the University. Faculty and staff may ONLY purchase software at the Drop-In Support Desk at the University Store on Fifth if it is for PERSONAL HOME USE.
  • Departments can purchase software for professional use on University computers; some software license agreements also permit home use.

Software Available at No Cost

Students can download a number of software titles at no cost including Microsoft Office, Windows, and other titles from the Software Download Service via My Pitt (

Faculty, staff, and departments can get software at no cost in a number of ways. You can download software from the Software Download Service and the SecureU SharePoint site.

A current Pitt ID is required. You can pay by cash, check, Mastercard, Visa, and Panther Funds. Sales tax will be added to the price.
