Emergency Notification Service (ENS) and Crime Alerts

Emergency Notification Service (ENS)

The University's Emergency Notification Service (ENS) provides University students and employees with critical information in the event of an emergency—using voice, text, and email channels. Delivery of these emergency alert messages is handled by Police Department communications specialists and is directed by the Chief of Police. Computing Services and Systems Development provides support and guidance for usage of this service.

How to subscribe

Everyone at the University is subscribed to receive email alerts from ENS. You are strongly encouraged to subscribe to receive text and voice message alerts, as well.

  1. Log in to http://pi.tt/alerts
  2. Click Add next to Mobile Phones and enter your phone number.
  3. Complete the steps in the subscription wizard.

You can also subscribe by texting pitt sub yourusername ens to 41411. There is no fee to subscribe. However, you are responsible for any messaging fees from your mobile phone/device provider. It is also your responsibility to ensure your information is accurate and up-to-date.

Crime Alerts

The Police Department issues a crime alert when a crime is reported in or near any University building. ENS notifications will NOT be sent out for every crime alert. Subscribing to ENS alerts does not subscribe you to receive crime alerts. Complete the steps below to subscribe to receive crime alerts.

How to subscribe

  1. Log in to http://pi.tt/alerts.
  2. Ensure your phone number appears under the Mobile Phones heading. If it does not, click Add and complete the steps in the subscription wizard.
  3. Click the Opt-In Lists tab.
  4. Check the box next to Alerts: Crime Alerts
  • Note: NotifyU and ENS share the same interface. This means that any mobile phone number you add on the My Account tab will receive both ENS alerts and alerts from any NotifyU lists you have joined on the Opt-In Lists tab.
