Additionally, Pitt IT offers the Virtual Student Computing Lab for a powerful remote experience that is available 24/7 and has additional software that is not installed on the physical lab computers. By using Windows Virtual Desktop, any personal device with an internet connection can become a lab PC—regardless of the user’s location.

Lab Computer Availability

Find out which lab has available Windows and Mac computers before you get there. There are three easy ways to check:

  1. See the interactive lab status map below. You can click on each location to get additional information.

  2. Visit Pitt Mobile (m.pitt.edu) with your smart phone or mobile device, and select Student Computing Labs.
  3. Check one of our digital signs in the labs or around campus.

Click on the tabs in the ribbon above the map to display a map with icons for one of the University campuses or Pitt Print locations (Pittsburgh campus only). Click on each map icon for more information about the computing service it represents.

Computing Lab Accessibility

At the request of Disability Resources and Services, Pitt IT provides the following accessibility software in our seven Student Computing Labs:

  • JAWS screen reading software for Windows
  • Kurzweil 3000 provides assistance for students with learning disabilities (like dyslexia) and ESL students; includes research and process writing tools, an MP3 encoder to create audio files, bilingual dictionaries and translation support, and study skills support tools
  • Windows 10 Magnifier and Narrator

All Student Computing Labs are on ground level or can be reached by elevator. There are ADA-compliant desks in all of the Student Computing Labs, and the mobile computing counters have ADA-compliant sections with lower counter space.

More information on accessible resources can be found on our Accessibility page.

Computing Software

  • More than 180 individual software titles are available in the Student Computing Labs on the Windows, Mac and Virtual Student Computing Lab.
