Scammers often take advantage of the holidays or tragedies to distribute phishing campaigns. These scams may take the form of unsolicited emails that contain harmful links or attachments, requests for donations from fraudulent charitable organizations, and ads that contain malicious software.
Be vigilant for these types of scams during the coming weeks. If you receive a message that you suspect may be a phishing scam, please report it by forwarding the email message as an attachment to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tips for spotting phishing scams—along with detailed instructions for reporting suspicious email messages—are available on our Phishing Awareness page. Tips for avoiding charity scams are available on the Federal Trade Commission’s website.
