Beware of Phishing Campaign Directed at University Students

Friday, February 8, 2019 - 13:18

The FBI has recently identified successful spear phishing campaigns directed at college and university students around the country, especially during periods when financial aid funds are disbursed in large volumes. In general, the spear phishing emails are from cyber criminals posing as academic officials. The emails request that students provide their university username and password. The cyber criminals then gain access to the students’ payment accounts and change the direct deposit destination of financial aid disbursements to bank accounts within the criminal’s control.
