Email: Set Preferences
You can change your email preferences (that is, where you would like to read your University email) at any time.
Change Your Email Preferences
- Log in to My Pitt (my.pitt.edu).
- Click Profile at the top of the page.
- Click Manage Your Account.
- Click Set Email Preferences.
- Make your selections.
Note: If you want to forward your University mail to another address, select "I want to receive my email at another location" and enter the forwarding address in the text field.
- Click Submit.
Your University of Pittsburgh email address (email@example.com) is the address used for all official University communication. It is the only email address that will appear in University publications such as the Student Information System (PeopleSoft), the CourseWeb (Blackboard Learn) course information system, and My Pitt (my.pitt.edu). In addition, students will receive e-Bills at their University email address.
Pitt IT recommends that you do not forward your email to non-University addresses. However, if you choose to, you can forward your University email to another address. In some scenarios, email authentication policies of service providers can interfere with the delivery of legitimate email messages, including messages addressed to firstname.lastname@example.org addresses. If you send and read your University email through your Pitt Email (Outlook) mailbox, you will not be affected by this issue. If you choose to read your email at another address, you remain responsible for all messages that are sent to your University address. Check your email provider's spam filter regularly to ensure you have not missed any important messages from the University.
