Legacy IPSec VPN Client to be Retired July 1

Monday, June 6, 2022 - 16:32

Effective Friday, July 1, 2022, Pitt Information Technology is ending network access through the legacy Cisco IPSec VPN Client, which is no longer supported by the vendor.

The PittNet VPN (GlobalProtect) client ― available at no cost to all students, faculty, and staff ― provides numerous improvements over the IPSec VPN client, including better performance, health checks, and the ability to leveraging identity for enhanced security.

Take Action: Transition from IPSec to GlobalProtect

Pitt IT is reaching out to IPSec VPN client users to assist them with the transition to GlobalProtect. If you currently use the IPSec VPN client, please take the following steps:

  1. Test your current IPSec connectivity using GlobalProtect.

Begin using GlobalProtect today to verify that the client meets your access requirements and delivers the same functionality as the IPSec client.

  1. Contact Pitt IT for help resolving issues or making changes.

Contact the Technology Help Desk if you encounter issues using GlobalProtect or identify changes that you would like to make (for example, removing legacy access that is no longer required).
