Reminder: Faculty Information System Update Scheduled for July 21 - 24

Friday, July 21, 2017, at 6 p.m. Work is expected to be completed by 8 a.m. on Monday, July 24. The system
will be unavailable while the upgrade is in progress.

Faculty Information System Update Affects Research Interests

The Faculty Information System will be will be updated during the standard maintenance period on January 28. As part of this update, your Research Interests will move from the Overview section of your profile to the Professional Activities section, where they will be listed as individual records.

You will be able to view, add, and update your Research Interests in their new location. You will also be able to search for colleagues by Research Interest. To do so, click the Menu link, select Explore, and click System Search

The update also includes an enhanced “Favorites” feature. You can mark items in your Profile as favorites to improve their visibility. You can also favorite Research Interests, Publications, Teaching Activities, Professional Activities, and more. Click the red, heart-shaped icon to favorite an item.

Faculty Information System Maintenance Scheduled for Feb. 11

The Faculty Information System (Elements) will undergo system maintenance during the standard downtime period on Saturday, February 11 beginning at 11:00 p.m. The work is expected to be completed by 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 12. The Faculty Information System will be unavailable while maintenance is in progress.

Faculty Information System Maintenance Scheduled for April 1

The Faculty Information System (Elements) will undergo system maintenance during the standard downtime period on Saturday, April 1, 2017 beginning at 11:00 p.m. Work is expected to be completed by 1 a.m. on Sunday, April 2. The Faculty Information System will be unavailable while maintenance is in progress. The CV and Reports feature (including NIH Biographical Sketch) will not be available until Monday, April 3, 2017 at 8:00 a.m.

Symantec Releases Updates

Symantec has released updates to Symantec Endpoint Protection for workstations that provide support for IPv6.

Individuals who use Symantec Endpoint Protection for personal workstations are urged to download the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP 12.1.6 MP6) from the Software Download Service at My Pitt.

Departments who administer Symantec Endpoint Protection manager, and use the embedded host firewall feature, may obtain the most recent full download package from the Software Download Service at My Pitt. After installing the download package, department administrators should distribute updates to the Symantec clients that they manage.

Departments that are utilizing CSSD’s managed Symantec Endpoint Protection server do not need to do anything. All relevant updates have been applied to the service.

January Microsoft Security Bulletins

Microsoft Corporation has announced two new critical security vulnerabilities affecting Microsoft Office and Adobe Flash Player. CSSD recommends that users immediately identify and install the security updates necessary to repair these vulnerabilities by using Microsoft's Windows Update feature on their computers as soon as possible.

In addition to installing the Microsoft patches, CSSD also recommends that all users install Symantec Endpoint Protection software and use the LiveUpdate feature to get the latest virus definitions. As a complement to Symantec Endpoint Protection, CSSD offers Malwarebytes Premium for individuals and departments at no cost. Students, faculty, and staff can download Malwarebytes and Symantec Endpoint Protection at no cost through the Software Download Service at My Pitt. Departments can submit a help request to obtain Malwarebytes for multiple machines.
