Office 2013: Introduction

Overview

When Office 2010 was released in 2009, its new interface represented a significant change from the previous version of Office, Office 2007. The introduction of Office 2013 three years later did not introduce as many changes as the previous version. However, it did feature several new enhancements that expands the access of Office applications.

Office 2007: Excel Ribbon

The following set of ribbons is available with every document that is opened in Excel.  Other ribbons are available for specialized tasks and will only appear when needed.  An example is the Chart ribbon.

Overview

With the release of Office 2007, Microsoft made several improvements to the Office suite that includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. The biggest changes to the software have been in the graphical interface. The menu and toolbars have been replaced by the Ribbon. Office 2007 is for computers with the Windows operating system.

Where are the menu items and toolbars?

The menu items and toolbars have given way to the Ribbon. The Ribbon is a thick bar at the top of the application window that contains icons which are grouped together by usage. For example, all the editing items are found on the Home tab on the Ribbon, while commands used for bibliographies and footnotes are on the References tab.
