Thunderbird

Thunderbird is the University's recommended IMAP email client.  IMAP is a protocol that allows a compatible email client to access, manipulate and save messages on a remote server. IMAP allows you to check your mail from any computer through online access. It also allows for the offline email capabilities increasingly utilized by the users of laptop computers and those individuals who use multiple computers.

There are many commercial and public-domain IMAP email clients available.  Thunderbird provides easy-to-use, feature-rich functionality and meets the University's technical requirements. Thunderbird is an IMAP email client that fully utilizes the Graphical User Interface (GUI) capabilities of Windows and Macintosh systems and manages all email related information, including address books, email folders, and remote preferences storage.
