The Legacy Webmail (IMAP) Service is Being Retired

Wednesday, December 14, 2016 - 12:55

All members of the University community have My Pitt Email service. The University’s Legacy Webmail (IMAP) service is now being retired. Less than two percent of the University community use the service and there are significant hardware, software, and support costs associated with maintaining a service that has such low utilization. Retiring this service helps keep the University’s efforts focused on improving overall email performance and offering enhanced features, such as encrypted email.

We are contacting individuals who have an IMAP mailbox to inform them of this change. They can choose to have their IMAP mailbox deleted, or they can choose to have their IMAP messages moved to their My Pitt Email mailbox and then have their IMAP mailbox deleted.

For individuals who are actively using their Legacy Webmail (IMAP) mailbox, access to IMAP will end on March 31, 2017. For individuals, who have not logged in to their Legacy Webmail mailbox in 120 days and do not receive mail there, access to IMAP will end on February 15, 2017.
