IMAP Hardware and Software Upgrade Scheduled May 29 to June 1, 2009

The hardware and software for the University's IMAP email system is being upgraded to enhance performance and ensure the continued reliability of the system. The upgrade will begin at 6:00 PM on Friday, May 29, and will be complete by 7:00 AM on Monday, June 1.

Availability of IMAP email services will be as follows:

  • IMAP email service will be unavailable from 6:00 PM until 11:00 PM on Friday, May 29th. All email will be queued during this time and delivered after 11:00 PM.
  • Beginning at 11:00 PM Friday, May 29th, users will be able to send and receive email from the IMAP system, however mailboxes will not yet be populated with previously stored email. Mail folders will be visible but empty. No changes should be made to mail folders until the upgrade is complete.  Users should restart their email clients the first time they access their email after 11:00 p.m.
  • Beginning at 11:00 PM Friday, May 29th previously stored email will be moved to the mailboxes on the new system. As each mailbox is moved, the user will be notified by email when the move begins and when it is complete. Users will continue to be able to send mail and receive new mail throughout this period.
