Account Administration

Types of Accounts

Primary Account

This type of account is automatically created for students, faculty and staff at the start of their affiliation with the University. For students, the account is created upon admission to the University. Students are provided with information about their new accounts by U.S. mail. This information is provided to faculty and staff by their Responsibility Center Account Administrator. Primary accounts remain valid during the time a student is enrolled or throughout the period a faculty or staff member is employed by the University.

Sponsored Account

This type of account is created at the discretion of a Responsibility Center Account Administrator for University affiliates who are not regular students, faculty, or staff or for those persons with primary accounts who need secondary accounts for an approved purpose. Sponsored accounts are owned by the University Unit that creates the account. These accounts are only granted if there is a valid academic reason for their creation. For example, sponsored accounts might be created for a visiting faculty member or consultant. Sponsored accounts have an expiration date and will expire by that date or at the end of the fiscal year unless renewed by the Responsibility Center Account Administrator.

Responsibility Center Account Administrators

Faculty and staff who need assistance with primary accounts and those persons who need assistance with sponsored accounts should contact their Responsibility Center Account Administrator for assistance. Participants in special University programs may be granted a sponsored account by the program administrator for that area. Responsibility Center Account Administrators have the ability to create specialized accounts for other purposes.

Changes to the Responsibility Center Account Administrators list require the approval of the Responsibility Center Head. Please download, print, and complete the Account Administrator Change Request Form to request any changes. The form must be mailed to 728 CL.

Responsibility Center Account Administrators have access to the ‘RC Administrators' Community in my.pitt.edu to assist with their duties. To view this community, log in to my.pitt.edu, click the My Communities tab, and select RC Administrators.
