CSSD Technology Solutions Earn Computerworld Honors
Wednesday, July 29, 2009
Two information technology solutions developed by CSSD- the Emergency Notification System (ENS) and the Application Virtualization for Effective Software Delivery project-have been awarded 2009 Laureates from the Computerworld Honors Program. These services are among the 20 Pitt innovations recognized by the Computerworld Honors Program since 2003.
In the event of an on-campus emergency, the Emergency Notification Service offers rapid communication to subscribers through text-messaging and voice mail. The free service, which was introduced to the University community during the 2007 fall term, has been used four times, with a successful message delivery rate of 99.8 percent.
The Application Virtualization for Effective Software Delivery project enables large numbers of software applications to be installed on computers without causing system failures. The project solved the challenge of providing more than 100 software applications for Windows computers maintained by CSSD for student use in the campus computing labs.
In its 21st year, Computerworld Honors is the longest-running global program to honor individuals and organizations in the information technology industry. Computerworld is published by the International Data Group (IDG).
